RICK STARR – Chairman of the World Surf Kayak Association (WSKA)

Rick Starr is a marine biologist by training and a water dog at heart. Rick has been board surfing since 1963, and kayaking since 1975. He started kayak surfing off the coast of Oregon, at first with river boats, then with finned surf kayaks. Rick was Captain of the USA West team that won the World Championships in Brazil in 1999. Rick was in the finals of both the IC and HP categories in the 1999 and 2001 World Championships. Twice he finished in second place in the world. He has also come in second in each boat type at the US National Championships, earning him the title of Mr. Consistency. His nickname is Da Gansta, because, in competition, he will take the heat from you if you are not careful. This year, in Costa Rica, USA West Team become World Champion.
