Police in New Zealand have expressed their disbelief, after pulling over a motorist with a kayak strapped to his car – sideways.
The man, described by police as "a visitor from Ireland", was stopped on Sunday afternoon along a busy stretch of motorway in the Waikato area of the north island.
According to Waikato District Road Policing Manager, Inspector Grace, the driver didn't appear to see what the problem was.
"Regardless that this is a busy, winding rural road already subject to busier than usual traffic flows over the summer, the driver was unrepentant, telling the officer who stopped him that if he secured the kayak long-ways as he is supposed to, it would cause damage to the roof of his car."
"What appears to be the problem, Officer?"
