Salut,
I'm working in Hossegor for the next three months and was wondering if anyone knows anything about kayaking in this area or if there are any local clubs to go kayaking with. I have a car and a playboat so am able to drive further away. I've heard there are some playspots in Pau? Sorry my French isn't very good

Since a few time the new course in Pau had a playspot. It may do the first competition in June.
I don't know if you find playspot on Nive river. It close from Hossegor.
During the next four weeks you should find the best spot on Pau river, at Saint Pé de Bigorre slalom course, particulary just above : the "Fliflap" spot ! There is a freestyle race in 8-9 of may.

May and june is the best periode to run rivers in Pyrenees. It's the highest water of year !

You're welcome,

Eric.

Hi,
Actually, the next 3 months are the best for paddling in the Pyrenees.
You can find some playspots on the Gave d'Oloron, but the best is the Gave de Pau between Lourdes and Pau(about 2 hours drive from Hossegor).
So there you'll find the Flip-Flap, the Pont des Grottes hole, the new hole in the whitewater stadium of Pau (but you'll have to pay), the hole of the former Slalom Course.

There'll be a Freestyle contest, as Eric said, in St Pé, at the Flip-Flap wave the 8-9th may.
Otherwise, river running is fun at that time of the year. The Pyrenees Buddies race will take place the 15-16th of may in Artouste.
During those events you'll find a lot of local paddlers happy to show you the jewels of their mountains.

If you're interested to come or to have more infos, feel free to contact me by private message.

Cheers.

Fred

Thanks guys,
I'm gutted I don't have a creek boat and some decent kit with me I'd love to push myself some more on some of the rivers in the pyrenees. I've organised to go to a kayaking weekend next week somewhere in north Spain. But the playspots look good and I'm keen to check them out thanks again
