I know I know my French sucks but I think this is a cool geeky stupid story that I wrote.
I figured you frenchies would love this sort of thing cause I do.
We did a bunch of testing of our new security bar set up and I put together a story, some photos, and a video about it.
I also included some info on how it all works on my "BLOG". Cool hunh. I have a blog.

Shane,
As we can see on the pictures, the "black diamond" logo doesn't appear anymore.
do you produce them by yourself, or bd still manufacture them?
Second point on the inserts. Do you know if the threaded hole is blind, or through the whole hole?
For the squared on for exemple, in my boat, i got the impression that insert is mounted on the wrong side.
I have the squared pad (plastic surrounded) at 1/4" of the shell.
Very interesting article.

Thank you all for playing in English.
They have let me out of my cave for a bit now so I hope to write more articles, videos, and do more kayaking in the future.
We stopped working with Black Diamond and actually found a new manufacturer that is building the bars stronger.
No big name on the bar but better performance.
There is supposed to be a little clearance of the insert inside the boat it makes it even stronger by creating a small column supported by the structure inside. I am pretty sure that sentence won't translate very well. Hopefully you will get my point.
The insert is not open to the inside of the kayak. You should be able to see in the pictures that it covered in plastic and you can see the plastic filling the end of the opening.
Come on down to the Green Race Val.
I hope this is understandable.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Shane

well, nice, as mechanical teatcher, I'm very happy to see at least some industrial technic in kayak validation.
But have you made some numerical simulations before designing your security bar, or was this empirical ?
And a big congratulation for your very ingenious security rope bag !

Mechanical and Math teachers make me nervous.
I failed them all in school.
We did not do any numerical simulations.
We knew the shape that we wanted and it came out to be better than other security bars,
so we left it how it was.
Thanks for the compliments.
We try.
We are very excited about the rescue bag.
It is working very well.
Thank you for your thoughts

Shane,
What is the load at the break? It seems to be around 2000 psi?
I don't understand, psi is a pressure measure, not a reaction, and depend on the surface.

Le p.s.i., pour pound per square inch (livre par pouce carré, lb/in²), est une unité de mesure de contrainte et de pression anglo-saxonne.
1 p.s.i. = 6 894 N/m² = 6 894 Pa = 0,068 94 bar.

Hi Shane,
Thx for the test results.
The bolt was sheared @ 2200lbs, this is not unexpected for a 6mm (approximately) stainless steel bolt with a combined (shear + pull) load; however I don't think the setup is very realistic : in real life the boat would be pinned down by the water flow (or a tree trunk) and the boat hull should probably break (or an insert be pulled through the hull) well before the bar.
What do you think ?
Fred
